E-Learning Choices
There are three principle means of e-learning and these are outlined here.
Distance – self-taught
You work through the getlearning.net course material on-line when and where it suits you and at a pace you are comfortable with. You access your chosen course material through Learnwise, the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) used by getlearning.net. When you register, you are given a unique LoginID and password for logging onto Learnwise as well as the e-tutor’s contact details. If you have any queries as you progress through the course then you can contact the e-tutor responsible for your subject.
Distance – e-tutor supported
The difference between this form of e-learning and self-taught is that when your course is supported by an e-tutor, the e-tutor works with you and your virtual ‘classmates’ supporting you for the duration of the course. Unlike self-taught courses, you start the course at the same time as your virtual ‘classmates’ so that you can communicate and share information with them as well as work together on tasks set by your e-tutor. Your e-tutor is an expert on the subject you are studying.
Blended – face to face and on-line
Blended learning involves the use of technology to enhance traditional face-to-face learning. At one end of the spectrum, it may simply involve using PowerPoint in the classroom. At the other, it may involve using a VLE to support the face-to-face component of a course. As blended learning includes a classroom element, it will, by its very nature, be led by teachers and tutors.
We welcome enquiries about incorporating getlearning.net material into blended learning.
